A Tradition of Ingenuity Through Chemistry

Over the years, we have been called the “Wizards of Baum’s,” largely due to our founding in 1879 by L. Frank Baum, author of “The Wizard of Oz”. In 1903, T.J. Mowry purchased the company, beginning a tradition of chemical innovation that has lasted for multiple generations. Our product “wizardry” still remains strong today.

On November 13, 1939 the headlines read: “Byrd Will Use Rome Oil for South Pole Engines.” Yes, that’s right. The oil for Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic Expedition was chosen for its durability under the most extreme temperature conditions and was manufactured by Baum’s Castorine in Rome, New York. This remains a proud moment in our company’s successful history.

More Than a Century of Proven Performance

At Baum’s Castorine, we take pride in formulating superior lubricant products that are designed to extend machine life and reduce your maintenance costs. For over 100 years, our team has remained committed to offering quality products and service at competitive prices.

The Castor Additive Advantage

There’s a good reason why Baum's Castorine offers an advantage over the rest — the castor additive, derived from the castor bean. The use of castor in our Tena-Film Lubricants increases lubricity, making petroleum oils even more oily. Additionally, our castor formula helps extend the life of machines by adding detergency and preventing corrosion.
